Burgers with Brent, James to Mexico, Paul to Afghanistan

Last week one of my best friends, Brent Stoddard, was in town on business from Arizona. He was able to get away from work for an evening to hang out with us. We took advantage of the situation to enjoy the kind of meal that was typical of our high school and college days: burgers and fries from Five Guys. It was great to see Brent, especially since it's been a few years and he and Amy have never actually met before. We had a great time reminiscing. Hopefully we'll get to see him again soon, and for more than a couple hours (although I'm not sure I want to give Brent a lot of time to tell Amy about what we used to do :) )

Amy thought that the quantity of fries that Five Guys sells was worth documenting, so here are a few pictures:

Another of my best friends, James Dewey, left last week for his first foreign service assignment in Matamoros, Mexico. Amy and I went down on Tuesday to have dinner with him and say goodbye. We'll miss not having James around, but we're happy to see him achieve his goal of joining the foreign service. Sometime soon we'll have to visit him down in Matamoros, and then we can stop in Mesa to visit Brent and Kelly and the girls.

Amy's brother Paul joined us for dinner at James' place. He has been in town for the last little while, getting ready to go work in Afghanistan for several months. It was real nice to see him again, and we wish him the best while he's over there. Many of you know that Amy has a goal to own goats someday--last week Paul and I decided that she should get some fainting goats, which are much more exciting than normal goats:
